How Much Does It Cost to Build a Dock in South Florida?

January 12, 2026 Deep Blue Builders Expert reviewed

Every waterfront owner asks this question, and the honest answer is that dock cost depends on your specific site. That said, real numbers help you plan, so here is a practical breakdown of what we see across South Florida.

The honest range

A simple wooden dock with a few piles might start around $15,000. A larger dock with composite decking, a covered boat slip, and an entertainment area can run $100,000 to $200,000 or more. Most residential projects land somewhere in between.

Water depth is the biggest driver. Deeper water means longer pilings, more material, and more machine time. If your lot sits on a shallow canal, the job is simpler and cheaper than a deep water slip on Biscayne Bay.

What is inside the price

When you get a written estimate from us, it includes four things.

Permits and engineering. Most new docks need local permits and often agency review. We prepare the drawings and manage approvals, and that work is part of the price.

Pilings. These carry the whole structure. We drive them to engineered depth based on the bottom conditions we find on site.

Decking and hardware. The boards you walk on and the cleats, fenders, and fasteners that survive salt air for years.

Labor. Our own crew builds the dock. You pay for experienced hands, not subcontractor markups.

Why material choice matters

Pressure treated pine is the entry option. Composite lasts longer and needs less upkeep, which is why it is the most common choice for new residential docks today. IPE is the premium natural option, beautiful and extremely durable, but it costs more and requires skilled handling.

We lay out the tradeoffs on your actual project so you can decide based on your budget and how you plan to use the dock.
